Homemade
Pedialyte Jello

The ingredients on the label for the store-bought pedialyte include sucralose, artificial flavors and artificial colors. The ingredients are pretty bad and how is this supposed to make your child feel better? Pedialyte is given to prevent dehydration and give the body electolytes lost during fevers, diarrhea, etc. After doing a little research, I found that the standard recipe for pedialyte is water, salt, and sugary jello. I decided to make my own versions of pedialyte. (*NOTE: If your child is younger than 1 year old, use a different sweetener, such as maple syrup coconut sugar).

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 c. freshly brewed chamomile tea.
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 1 Tbsp of organic honey (or maple syrup)
  • 1/4 tsp of sea salt (or any other real salt you prefer- I use himalayan pink salt which has 84 trace minerals)
  • 2 Tbsp unflavored gelatin

Directions:

Add the honey and salt to the tea and stir until dissolved.

Test for taste – if it isn’t sweet enough, add more honey. Heat the water in a saucepan on low until it reaches a simmer. Add in the gelatin and stir until it’s completely dissolved – no lumps. Then, remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool for about a minute. Add in the tea and stir well. Then, pour it into a glass dish or jello mold and refrigerate until firm.
